How to stop a panic attack in the moment
Breathe in and Lean in
Panic attacks are no joke. They can come on with no warning and leave you feeling defeated and as if you just ran a marathon. They can make you start avoiding things you used to do easily. Often the fear of another panic attack can take over your life.
There can often be underlying trauma or unexpressed emotions that cause panic, but here are a few quick tips to get you functioning a bit better if you struggle with panic.
7- 11 breathing: Breathe in for 7 counts and out for 11 counts, breathe in and out through your nose
Lean into the panic: Allow your self talk to be “Yes, panic, bring it on” instead of “omg no, this is terrible, I have to leave, etc.”
It might sound crazy to tell yourself to panic, but have you ever tried it? I wonder what you will feel if you try it out?
You got this!
